GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – A local community is grappling with shock and sorrow following the homicide of a young teen mom. The deceased body of 16-year-old Mia Campos was discovered early on Monday morning. Her remains were located in a wooded area of Loganville.
Authorities received a distressing 911 call around 1 a.m. from the family of the victim. Gwinnett County police officers arrived at the scene in the 3600 block of Stephens Road to respond to the call.
Campos’ concerned family members explained that she had left home Sunday night with someone they did not know and failed to return. Using a cell phone tracking app, the family located her in the woods, where they tragically found her deceased.
Despite initial difficulties determining the cause of death at the scene, an autopsy conducted on Tuesday led the medical examiner to categorize Campos’ death as a homicide.
Following an ongoing investigation, police arrested Jesus Monroy, Campos’s ex-boyfriend, on Wednesday. In connection to the incident, he has been charged with providing false statements to law enforcement.
Authorities urge anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact the Gwinnett County Police Department or to call Crime Stoppers, where tips can be left anonymously.
