Reckless driver crashes into crowd, leaving seven dead and eleven injured

In a shocking incident, seven people were killed and at least 11 injured when a man deliberately drove his vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians in Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday. Brownsville Police Department’s Lt. Martin Sandoval confirmed that seven victims died on the scene, while at least 11 others were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police have not publically revealed the identity of the driver. However, he has reportedly been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains under constant supervision. Authorities are also testing the suspect for drugs and alcohol.

The tragic event took place outside the Ozanam Center in Brownsville, a shelter that serves migrants and homeless individuals in the community. It remains unclear whether the shelter’s location played any role in the attack. The victims of the deadly crash were waiting at a city bus stop located next to the Ozanam Center around 8:30 a.m. when the inident occurred.

Although the driver has only been charged with reckless driving so far, the ongoing investigation is expected to result in additional charges. Lt. Sandoval indicated that the attack appears to have been intentional. Witnesses near the scene reported seeing several bodies covered in the street and a group of women praying nearby.

This incident took place less than 24 hours after a separate tragedy in Allen, Texas, where a gunman targeted shoppers at a mall on Saturday. In that attack, eight people were killed and seven others injured. Police managed to shoot and kill the gunman, whose identity has not yet been revealed.
