RICHARDSON, TX – A shocking incident unfolded on a school bus in Richardson, Texas, when a man allegedly assaulted a bus driver in front of a bus full of children. The accused, who remains in custody on a $150,000 bond, was reportedly on probation for a previous assault involving a deadly weapon at the time of the attack.
Danny Cinco, the bus driver involved, finds solace in crafting violins, a skill he learned from his father. The former geologist turned to school bus driving as a new career path, but an unexpected confrontation on February 1 changed his routine day into a traumatic experience. Video footage obtained by an open records request from the Dallas Police Department provides insight into the ordeal that began on Skillman Street, north of Highway 635 in Dallas.
As Cinco drove the bus, children began arguing in the aisle, prompting him to follow protocol by pulling over and seeking police assistance. The situation escalated when a man began banging on the bus door. Cinco, concerned for the safety of the children, refused to let the stranger on board. Despite alerting the school district to contact the police, the man managed to pry open the bus door.
“I had to act quickly to protect everyone on board,” Cinco recalled. In a desperate attempt to prevent the intruder from entering, Cinco tried to push him out with his foot. However, the man grabbed Cinco’s ankle, pulling him down the stairs and onto the sidewalk, leaving Cinco with severe bruising to his leg.
The children, terrified by the unfolding chaos, screamed as the suspect, identified as Kirvin Brooks, left the scene. Brooks returned shortly after, but Cinco had already taken a clear photograph of him, which later became crucial in identifying Brooks on social media. Seven months later, this image assisted police in apprehending the suspect.
Danny Cinco has since moved on to work for a different school district, carrying with him a philosophy of turning negatives into positives. He continues to find peace in crafting violins, drawing parallels between the art of violin-making and his approach to life’s challenges. Brooks now faces a court hearing for felony assault charges, leaving a community hopeful for justice and safety in the days ahead.
