NAIROBI, KENYA – In a chilling revelation, police in Kenya announced the arrest of a suspected serial killer believed to have murdered 42 women over the past two years. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, was detained early Monday in Soweto, east of Nairobi, following a detailed investigation by authorities.
Kenya’s director of criminal investigations, Mohamed Amin, disclosed that Khalusha was apprehended outside a local club where he was watching the Euro 2024 soccer final. During interrogation, Khalusha reportedly confessed to luring and killing the women, then disposing of their bodies at a nearby dumping site. To date, only nine of the 42 bodies have been recovered.
Acting police inspector general, Douglas Kanja, described the recovered bodies as being “severely dismembered” and left in different states of decomposition. The gruesome nature of the findings points to the actions of a psychopathic serial killer, according to officials.
The investigation led authorities to Khalusha’s residence located approximately 100 meters from the crime scene. During the search, police found a machete, nylon sacks, industrial rubber gloves, a hard drive, and eight smartphones, amongst other incriminating items. Shockingly, Khalusha’s first victim was purportedly his wife, whom he strangled and dismembered.
This arrest came after police performed a forensic analysis on a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims, which led them directly to Khalusha. His proximity to both the crime scene and a police station has raised serious questions about how he managed to stay out of custody for so long.
In light of these horrifying events, a group of female leaders has called for enhanced protective measures for women in Kenya, stressing the urgency of re-establishing dedicated gender desks at police stations nationwide. They emphasized the importance of treating femicide with the gravity it deserves to prevent future atrocities.
