Shooting at local basketball game leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

LOS ANGELES, CA – A basketball match in the South Bay region of Los Angeles ended in a fatal shooting with one person dead and another hospitalized, according to the local authorities. The incident took place in Hawthorne’s 2000 block of West 120th Street, where police responded to 911 calls about a shooting that occurred around 11:30 am.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found two adult males, both in their early thirties, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both of the men were immediately transported to a hospital, where one of them was declared dead on arrival. Reports on the other man’s condition have not been released yet.

The police have gathered from the preliminary investigation that the shooting was ignited by a dispute among the game’s players. It appears that one group of players, presumably the shooters, left the location following the disagreement, only to return shortly after. These players reportedly got out of their vehicle, opened fire on another group, and left the scene in a white vehicle.

As bystanders scampered for safety, the shooters intercepted a group of fleeing individuals and initiated a second round of shooting near 120th Street. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported from this second incident.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is assisting the Hawthorne Police Department in the ongoing investigation of the case, is yet to release more detailed descriptions of the suspects.
