MEMPHIS, TN- A shooting incident occurred at a Memphis concert featuring popular rapper Lil Baby, leaving one person injured, according to local law enforcement. The Memphis Police Department reported that they responded to a shooting at the FedExForum late Thursday evening. The FedExForum, a 19,000-seat arena, is the home ground for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis men’s basketball team.
The male victim who was hit by the gunfire was transported to a nearby hospital. He was reported to be out of critical condition by Friday. The police confirmed that no other injuries were reported from the incident. The authorities are currently in the process of identifying and locating the shooter.
The police are also investigating how the shooter was able to smuggle a firearm into the arena despite the security measures put in place to prevent a violent incident such as this one. The venue employs a private security firm to conduct weapon screenings on attendees. The details of how this security measure was bypassed remain unclear.
During the incident, Lil Baby was quickly escorted off the stage when the shots were fired in order to avoid being put in any further danger. The concert was subsequently canceled, and the venue was evacuated for the safety of the concert attendees.
A representative for Lil Baby has not yet responded to requests for additional information. However, the rapper took to X, previously known as Twitter, on Friday afternoon to address the incident. He expressed his regret for not being able to perform and assured his fans that they would receive refunds.
