Shooting breaks out at L.A. Fitness gym

TINLEY PARK, IL – A heated argument over a basketball game has led to attempted murder charges against a South Chicago man. Tinley Park police confirmed that 26-year-old Michael Gomire was arrested in connection to the incident. According to allegations, he shot another man multiple times outside a local LA Fitness gym.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. on Thursday night in the gym’s parking lot, which is located in the 18000 block of Convention Center Drive in Tinley Park. The confrontation apparently began as a disagreement over a basketball game that was taking place inside the gym.

Police report that the altercation continued as the two men entered the parking lot. While they were there, Gomire reportedly went to his vehicle to retrieve a firearm. Authorities say that Gomire proceeded to return to the man with whom he’d been arguing and shot him a total of five times.

The injured man’s identity has not yet been disclosed by police. Because of the gunfire that broke out at the gym, he sustained critical injuries as a result of the attack and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Gomire is now facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and is expected to make his first appearance in a Chicago bond court on Sunday morning.
