Five people were injured after two suspects opened fire on a beach in San Pedro, Los Angeles on Saturday evening. Los Angeles police officers responded to the shooting at the Royal Palms Beach at around 5:45 p.m. The police found five male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The group of victims, who’s ages range from 15 to 51, were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Four of the victims were reportedly in stable condition, while one was in critical condition as a result of their injuries.
A large group of 20-somethings who were visiting the beach when they were approached by the two male suspects, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. After some sort of altercation, the two suspects opened fire, firing at least ten rounds from a semi-automatic handgun. The suspects then fled the scene in a silver sedan.
There have been no arrests, and the suspects are still at large. Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Los Angeles City Councilmember Tim McOsker issued a joint statement expressing their outrage and sadness over the incident. The officials expressed their concern about the growing gun violence in the community, which has led to significant harm.
The statement further read that the beach would be closed on Sunday and would close earlier on weekends until a safety plan was developed to curb violence.
