Shooting leaves 2 dead and 2 injured, including toddler

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A shooting in Washington, D.C. left two men dead and two others injured, including a toddler, in a daylight attack, Metropolitan Police Department officials confirmed.

The incident occurred around 11:22 a.m. on Thursday when three individuals, believed to be armed with rifles, exited a vehicle and began firing extensively along the block, Police Chief Pamela Smith reported during a press briefing.

The victims were caught in the gunfire while at an intersection. While two men succumbed to their injuries, a third man survived and is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Additionally, a 2-year-old girl, who was part of a daycare group on a morning walk, was struck by the gunfire. She was rushed to the hospital with injuries that were also non-life-threatening. According to Chief Smith, no other children from the daycare were harmed.

Expressing her frustration at the persistent gun violence in the community, Chief Smith called for an end to such senseless acts. “We’re sick and tired of this,” she stated.

Authorities are actively searching for the suspects, who were last seen fleeing in a blue Dodge Charger with heavily tinted windows. It is believed the assailants switched vehicles following the shooting.

The police are appealing for any information relating to the case, urging the public to help identify the perpetrators. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the police. The investigation is ongoing as the community reels from another episode of gun violence impacting its members, including its youngest.
