TAMARAC, FL – A 6-year-old boy identified as Odaine Hall accidentally shot and killed himself inside a residence in Tamarac, Florida, using an unsecured gun, according to local law enforcement officials.
Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) stated that the incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Sun Vista Gardens complex. At the time of the incident, the child was reportedly under his uncle’s supervision.
BSO deputies arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. after they received reports about a shooting at the complex on the 5600 block of Rock Island Road. They found Hall with a single gunshot wound and pronounced him dead on the scene.
The incident has left a visible impact on the family and surrounding community. In an interview at the scene, BSO spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis empathized with the grieving family, stating, “This is a tragic incident for a family…this is a family that has lost their child and they are going through the unspeakable.”
Although an investigation is ongoing regarding the circumstances that led to the devastating shooting, no criminal charges have been filed yet. In response to the situation, the BSO underscored the importance of responsible gun ownership. The department issued a statement encouraging gun owners to unload their firearms and store them in locked, child-inaccessible containers to avoid preventable tragedies of this nature.
