Son arrested for murdering his 95-year-old mom

DENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – A disturbing incident in Denton Township involves the death of a 95-year-old woman allegedly at the hands of her own son, according to the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office. 60-year-old John Miko was arrested after his mother, Clara Miko, called the police for help, stating that she was being continuously assaulted by her son, who threatened to kill her.

The sheriff’s office responded to find Clara Miko severely injured and lying on the garage floor of her apartment. She was unable to move and needed immediate medical help. The police also found John Miko at the scene. Officers described him as being intoxicated and uncooperative.

Upon delving into his history, investigators discovered that he was on active probation due to a past instance of domestic assault.

The officers took John Miko into custody, and he was detained at the Roscommon County Jail. Despite the prompt medical help, Clara Miko tragically died in the hospital on Saturday morning from injuries inflicted during the assault.

Following this, John Miko was brought before a court on Wednesday to face charges of first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, assault by strangulation, and first-degree homicide. A court has mandated his continued detainment at the Roscommon County Jail on a $1 million bond.
