Store employee shoots armed robber

CONCORD, CA – An attempted robbery at a convenience store in Concord turned deadly Friday night when a store employee fatally shot an armed suspect. The incident unfolded at the SNN’s Fast and Easy Mart on Willow Pass Road around 11:30 p.m., when a man carrying a shotgun entered the store and demanded a coworker open the safe.

The confrontation, which lasted only a few tense moments, ended with the suspect being shot by the employee. Authorities confirmed the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has yet to release any details about the case, deferring comments to the Concord Police Department, which is leading the ongoing investigation.

A witness who saw the suspect enter the store described the scene as alarming, noting the shotgun in the suspect’s hand. The store has since handed over surveillance footage to assist in the investigation and has taken measures to enhance security by installing new cameras.

In the aftermath, the community has rallied around the employee, expressing gratitude for their safety. Many patrons have visited the store, offering support and relief that no one else was harmed. “They’re protecting their property and their coworkers,” one customer noted, emphasizing the employee’s quick actions.

The store’s management reported an outpouring of emotion from regular customers who expressed their relief and support. “Our customers have been coming in, some in tears, saying how glad they are that we’re okay,” a store representative shared.

Legal experts suggest that the employee’s actions may be justified under self-defense laws, a sentiment echoed by many in the community. There is speculation that the district attorney may hesitate to press charges, given the community’s stance on the matter and the potential challenge of securing a conviction.

The incident has highlighted a broader frustration with crime in the area, as residents express their weariness with ongoing criminal activities. The community’s support for the employee reflects a growing intolerance for such incidents, with many hoping this event will serve as a deterrent to future crimes.
