The ceremony drew celebrities, athletes, fans and tight security to Midtown Manhattan on a holiday weekend.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce married Friday night at Madison Square Garden, turning one of the world’s best-known arenas into a guarded wedding site for a pop star and an NFL champion whose relationship has drawn global attention.
The wedding brought together two of the country’s biggest entertainment and sports figures at a venue better known for concerts, basketball and hockey. Swift, 36, and Kelce, 36, held the event after days of closed streets, private arrivals and public guessing about the ceremony. A city permit showed plans for a large event that could run into early Saturday, while Swift’s representative confirmed the marriage after guests had begun arriving.
The ceremony took place July 3, nearly three years after Kelce first made his interest in Swift public following her Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Actor and comedian Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, according to a statement from Swift’s representative. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her man of honor. Kelce’s brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, served as best man. Screens outside the arena displayed the message “JUST&T MARRIED!” around the time word spread that the couple had wed. The couple did not have a traditional lineup of bridesmaids and groomsmen, according to details released after the ceremony.
Swift and Kelce both wore custom Christian Dior couture designed by Jonathan Anderson. Swift also wore Cartier jewelry and Christian Louboutin shoes. Guests seen near the arena included singers, actors, athletes and people close to the couple, among them Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Jack Antonoff, Cooper Kupp and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Longtime Swift publicist Tree Paine and Swift’s childhood friend Abigail Anderson Berard were also spotted. Stevie Nicks, a longtime influence on Swift, was expected to perform during the celebration. Officials did not release a full guest list, and many details of the event remained private Friday night.
The public planning for the wedding centered on Madison Square Garden and the blocks around it. A city permit described the event as a “Special Event at MSG” and allowed the main event to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, with the option to continue until 4 a.m. Saturday. The permit allowed up to 1,000 people. It also showed that 100 guests were expected for a Thursday evening pre-party described by officials as an intimate rehearsal dinner. Black SUVs were seen entering a tented area at the arena, while workers brought in equipment, put up no-parking signs and prepared controlled entrances around the building.
Security was visible before and during the event. Police barricades blocked areas near the venue, K-9 units were seen entering Madison Square Garden, and several nearby streets were closed to vehicles and pedestrians. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said earlier in the week that the NYPD would have a detail in place, but she declined to give more specifics. The closures came during a busy July Fourth holiday weekend in Manhattan, drawing attention from residents and business owners who questioned how much public support was being used for a private event. City officials had been aware of the permit request for weeks, according to records described in advance of the wedding.
The arena setting gave the couple more privacy than many other New York venues could offer. Madison Square Garden has enclosed entrances, large backstage areas and space for tents and traffic controls. That setup helped shield arrivals from full public view even as fans gathered nearby. Some wore veils, held signs and waited behind barriers in summer heat. The scene mixed a concert atmosphere with a security operation, as people tried to glimpse cars, guests or any sign from inside. The Empire State Building was set to glow in a light blue sparkle tribute, adding another city landmark to the night’s public display.
Swift and Kelce’s relationship began in 2023 after Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast that he had hoped to meet Swift at her Kansas City concert and give her a friendship bracelet. Swift later attended a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023, making the relationship public. She became a regular presence at Kansas City games, while Kelce attended shows on her Eras Tour. Their public profile grew after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February 2024, when Swift joined Kelce on the field. Kelce later appeared onstage during Swift’s concert at Wembley Stadium in London.
The couple announced their engagement in August 2025 with a social media post showing them together in a flower-filled setting. The caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” In the months that followed, they said little publicly about wedding plans, even as reports pointed to a large New York celebration. The final setup at Madison Square Garden showed how closely the event had been guarded. The permit’s language, guest movement and closures gave the clearest signs before Friday that the wedding would be held at the arena.
No public images from inside the ceremony had been released by the couple as of early Saturday. The event continued into the night under the city permit, with street closures and security expected to remain in place as crews broke down the tents, barriers and equipment around Madison Square Garden.
