BIXBY, OK – A father from Oklahoma was taken into police custody after authorities accused him of deserting a fatal accident scene involving his teenage daughter, as indicated in several press accounts. On the night of January 11th, local law enforcers in Bixby were called to the scene of the car disaster. According to officials, 16-year-old Shelby Binney was thrown from the vehicle and sadly passed away after being taken to a nearby health facility.
The father, Elliott Binney, was named by the police as the operator of the car who, they suggest, abandoned the crash site before officers arrived.
According to police accounts, Elliot was driving an SUV carrying his daughter Shelby and three other relatives, including his wife. Eyewitnesses stated that Elliot was driving at an excessive speed of 70mph and crossed into a prohibited overtake zone when the crash happened.
Post-crash investigations led police to discover an unclosed bottle of vodka. Law enforcers claim that Elliott confessed to purchasing the bottle and imbibing some of its contents while driving.
KJRH reports that Elliot is facing multiple charges that include first-degree manslaughter, fleeing a collision site resulting in death, and overpassing a vehicle in an unlawful zone. Authorities have reported that Elliot has been released on bail since these charges were put forth.
Shelby Binney received a touching memorial from her cheerleading group, the Oklahoma Xtreme Allstar Cheer, in a Facebook post following her untimely demise. This noted her as a part of their community for several years, with a “golden heart.” It also mentioned she was a source of brightness in the gym and showed dedication as an athlete while being a great cheer squad member.
A fundraising initiative has been started via GoFundMe in order to help with the bereaved family’s funeral expenses.
