Teen Fatally Shot Inside Northeast Harris County Apartment

Investigators are searching for a suspect after the 17-year-old was found with a gunshot wound near North Sam Houston Parkway.

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 17-year-old boy was found fatally shot Sunday at an apartment complex in northeast Harris County, prompting a homicide investigation as authorities searched for the person believed to have fled after the shooting.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies responded at about 5:40 p.m. Oct. 11 to an apartment complex in the 5300 block of North Sam Houston Parkway, near George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Deputies found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said preliminary information indicated that a suspect left the area after the shooting. Authorities had not announced an arrest by Monday morning, and investigators had not released the name or a description of the person they were seeking. Available official reporting referred to a suspect in the singular, and authorities had not confirmed that multiple gunmen were involved.

The victim’s identity had not been publicly released in the initial reports reviewed Monday. Houston-area reporting initially described the victim more generally as a man, while subsequent coverage identified him as a 17-year-old male. Authorities had not released additional information about his connection to the apartment or whether he lived at the complex.

Investigators also had not said what happened before the gunfire or whether the teenager and the suspected shooter knew each other. No motive had been announced. It was not immediately clear whether detectives had recovered a firearm, located surveillance video or identified witnesses who saw the shooting.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators with the sheriff’s office were handling the case. Their work includes establishing the sequence of events and determining who was present when the shooting occurred, but authorities had not released findings from that investigation as of Monday morning.

The shooting remained under investigation Monday. Authorities had not announced charges or identified a suspect, and further details about the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death had not been released.
