POMPANO BEACH, FL – Lawan Jones Jr., 18, turned himself in to the police on Thursday. The young man is now standing accused of a first-degree murder charge as a result of the death of his girlfriend’s father. Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed his arrest related to the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Keith Bryan Poole.
On Monday, Poole was discovered in a serious condition, having sustained several gunshot wounds on Northeast 28th Street. Despite being immediately rushed to Broward Health North, he succumbed to his injuries. This fatal exchange reportedly took place outside of Poole’s residence in the sight of his three children.
Jones, who had been living with Poole and his family for several months, was involved in a romantic relationship with Poole’s daughter. An argument sparked between the two men after Poole disagreed with some of the social media posts that was shared by Jones.
The argument escalated into physical violence, leading Jones to fatally shoot Poole. After the incident took place, Jones bolted from the scene of the crime with his girlfriend, who is also Poole’s daughter.
After his surrender at the BSO West Park District Office, Jones has been imprisoned. His girlfriend has been found safe and secure.
