A water rescue operation turned into a recovery effort after a 16-year-old boy went missing in Lake Wylie, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred when the victim jumped into the water from a catwalk under the bridge and failed to resurface.
The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the family of the victim and confirmed that the county coroner’s office is now assisting in the investigation. The catwalk is closed to the public, and several no-trespassing signs were posted, officials said.
Over the course of their efforts, emergency vehicles had limited driving access on the bridge. This was so that residents could still get to their homes
The York County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Yanni Harvell of Clover. Harvell’s body was recovered from the water by dive teams and pronounced dead at the scene.
