Three dead, baby critically injured in Tulsa shooting

A tragic shooting incident in northeast Tulsa has left three women dead and a baby in critical condition. The suspect, Caleb Venson, has been arrested for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and two other women, as well as for shooting the baby. The incident occurred at Wood Creek Apartments on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.

The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Ashley Atwell, 20-year-old Annaway Mackey, and 19-year-old Sarah Gonzales. Police came to the scene around 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots at the apartment complex, located near Interstate 244 and North Garnett Road. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered the three women and the critically injured baby, all suffering from gunshot wounds.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery. Thankfully, the latest update from the police indicates that the infant is expected to survive. Investigators have determined that Venson gained entry to the apartment by shooting out a sliding glass door. A 13-year-old boy, who was present during the incident, managed to hide in a bedroom upon hearing the gunshots. Venson later forced the teenager out of the room but expressed remorse for his actions.

The brave teenager managed to escape and immediately called for help. Meanwhile, Venson initially fled the scene but turned himself in to the authorities at around 8 a.m. He now faces multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and shooting with intent to kill.

Jennifer Atwell, the sister of Ashley, expressed her anger and grief over the tragedy in an interview. She revealed that Ashley and Venson had ended their relationship over a year ago, but Venson had moved into an apartment across the street, causing Ashley to live in constant fear. Jennifer emphasized the importance of recognizing and addressing domestic violence, urging people to understand that such behavior is unacceptable.
