Three dead, fifteen wounded in Walmart stabbing spree

SHANGHAI, CHINA – A gruesome knife attack occurred in a Shanghai Walmart supermarket on Monday night. The incident led to the deaths of three people, while another 15 sustained injuries.

Police arrested a man, known only by his surname, Lin, at the scene of the attack. Authorities have noted that this 37-year-old man had gone to Shanghai allegedly to express his fury over a personal economic dispute.

The stabbing spree unfolded in Shanghai’s Songjiang district, inside a shopping mall crowded with locals and visitors. Although the 15 injured victims were not in a critically ill state, three people could not survive their injuries. Those three victims were all pronounced dead at the hospital.

Recent times have seen a surge in such knife attacks in China despite a stringent ban on firearms. A similar attack happened last month, where a 10-year-old Japanese student was fatally stabbed near his school in southern China. In June, four American college faculty members were stabbed in a public park in the northeastern city of Jilin.

The Shanghai stabbing has raised concerns about safety and sparked conversations on the need for more robust security measures in public areas.
