CORDOVA, TN – In Memphis-Shelby County, a shooting ended with three local teens in the hospital. The victims, a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old young man, were shot in the Chimneyrock area of Cordova, according to Memphis police reports.
The incident occurred just past 6 a.m. on Friday. An anonymous neighbor recounted how two girls sought help from her before departing. The following events unfolded with the appearance of multiple police cars and the subsequent deployment of crime scene tape in the vicinity.
Descriptions of the incident involve an armed teenager, the mother’s boyfriend, two sisters, and a friend. Reports suggest the boyfriend reacted to a plea not to shoot the girls’ mother by shooting the armed teenager and inadvertently injuring one of the sisters and the friend they had hidden in the attic.
The boyfriend fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, with police discovering a total of 12 casings on the property. The neighborhood, usually quiet, was shocked by the shooting incident. A total of 26 similar incidents within just a quarter-mile of the scene have been reported since May 2023.
The worrying increase in violence, especially involving firearms and youth, is a disturbing trend, according to MPD statistics. As a response, locals are stressing the importance of engaging young people in summer activities and camps for their safety.
