CHICAGO, IL – Late on Tuesday night, a violent shooting took place at Thorntons Fuel Station in Brighton Park, located on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Three individuals were caught in the shooting, among them two employees of the gas station.
According to the details provided by the Chicago police, a group of four males were chasing a 25-year-old man. Two from the group pulled out guns and began firing at the man, who fled into the Thorntons Fuel Station. Despite this, one assailant followed him into the premises, continued the assault and then left. The man sustained gunshot injuries to his abdomen and legs. First responders from the Chicago Fire Department were at the scene before he was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The two employees, aged 26 and 25, were not spared in the assault. The elder was shot in the mouth and is also in critical condition, while the younger employee suffered from a gunshot wound to the back and is in good condition. Both were attended to by the Chicago Fire Department and later shifted to a local hospital.
One witness, Alfredo Lopez, was at the fuel station during the incident. He narrated his frightening experience of hearing gunshots, shattering glass, witnessing an employee getting shot, and having to make a quick escape through the back doors amidst a hail of bullets.
The police confirmed that Area One detectives are currently investigating the case, although no arrests have been made so far. As of Wednesday morning, the Thorntons Fuel Station was cordoned off for continuing investigations.
