SALISBURY, NC – In a heartrending update, Salisbury police disclosed Wednesday that Myisha Angel, a three-year-old girl critically injured in a shooting incident earlier this month, has passed away. The same episode of violence took the life of an 80-year-old man identified as Charles William.
Police Chief Patrick Smith revealed that the young girl was sleeping in her bunk bed around 5:30 a.m. on August 10th when the residence on Rowan Mill Road was assailed by gunfire. More than 30 rounds were discharged into the home, tragically claiming Myisha’s and William’s lives.
Following the shooting, Angel was swiftly transported to a local hospital before being moved to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem due to her grave condition, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her great-grandfather, William, was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith added that several other occupants, including children, were present in the house at the time but emerged from the incident unscathed.
Investigators are prioritizing the case, with initial evidence suggesting the brutal attack was targeted and not arbitrary. The search is currently underway for multiple individuals who were believed to be involved in the fatal assault.
Further information indicates a dispute at a separate location might have been the catalyst for the events leading to the fatal shooting. This argument supposedly escalated and migrated to the victims’ residence, which had been subjected to a shooting incident two days prior, causing no injuries that time.
Kevin Antonio Smith Jr.’s name has arisen in the investigation as he was allegedly among the intended targets during the deadly shooting. His apprehension occurred in Charlotte last week following a Salisbury police pursuit. Whether Smith Jr. shares familial ties with the victims remains uncertain, but he is known to have links with the Rowan Mill Road house.
