CAPE CORAL, FL – A TikTok influencer with a following of over 400,000 is facing legal trouble after allegedly stealing from a local Target store not once, but twice. Marlene Velez, 22, of Cape Coral, was arrested for shoplifting at the same Target on Pine Island Road, with the latest incident occurring this past weekend.
Velez, known for her social media presence where she showcases her home and lifestyle, reportedly took 16 items valued at $225 during her most recent visit. According to Cape Coral Police, she manipulated barcodes at the self-checkout, allowing her to bypass payment for some items, including clothing and Christmas decorations.
The situation has raised concerns among neighbors and followers alike. Joe Moore, a resident in Velez’s neighborhood, expressed disbelief at the repeated thefts. “It’s shocking that someone would be so blatant and then do it again without any remorse,” he said.
The Cape Coral Police Department managed to apprehend Velez after Target employees shared surveillance footage with them. This marks her second arrest in just two weeks for similar offenses at the same location.
