Two children tragically lost their lives on Wednesday in Laval, Quebec, when a man drove a city bus into a daycare in what is suspected to be a deliberate action.
After the accident, the driver got out of the bus, removed all his clothing, and began shouting in an incomprehensible manner.
Neighbor Hamdi Benchaabane said the driver, Pierre Ny St-Amand, 51, appeared to be “in a different world.”
Hamdi Benchaabane, a neighbor, stated that the driver, 51-year-old Pierre Ny St-Amand, seemed to be “in another world.” The neighbor stated that, “he was just yelling; there were no words coming out of his mouth.”
While speaking with CBC, Benchaabane claimed, “He opened the door. He took off all his clothes. He was totally naked.” At this point, eyewitnesses dove onto the man and attempted to subdue him.
Six other children were hospitalized with not life-threatening injuries from the crash that the city mayor believes as intentional.
Nine charges have been brought against the driver, including two counts of first-degree murder. He was arrested by police following an altercation with several parents after a crash that the city’s mayor believes was intentional.
An eyewitness report claims that there were no visible skid marks on the scene, pointing to the driver’s possible motive.
Six other children were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, and the CBC reported that around 80 children under the age of five attend the daycare, though their exact ages were not revealed.
Chief Pierre Brochet of the Laval Police reported that the sight of the tragedy was so overwhelming that it caused some of the officers to cry.
