Tragic shooting at Sonic Drive-In, 12-year-old and 20-year-old charged with murder

A chilling incident unfolded at a Sonic Drive-In in Keene, Texas. A young employee lost his life in a confrontation that escalated beyond imagination. The victim, 32-year-old Mathew Davis, was allegedly shot by a 12-year-old boy during a disagreement with another man in the restaurant’s parking lot.

The incident commenced when Davis noticed Angel Gomez, a 20-year-old man, behaving inappropriately in the Sonic Drive-In’s parking lot on a Saturday evening. Davis, in his capacity as an employee, confronted Gomez, leading to a physical altercation.

As the conflict escalated, the 12-year-old boy, a passenger in Gomez’s vehicle, allegedly fired multiple shots from an assault rifle, critically injuring Davis. Davis, a father to a 10-year-old boy himself, was swiftly airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, both Gomez and the young boy reportedly fled the scene. However, they were apprehended by the police a few hours later and subsequently charged with murder.

The incident has triggered a wave of shock and grief, not only among the victim’s family and friends but also within the broader community. Sonic Drive-In, in an official statement, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their team member and affirmed their full cooperation with local authorities in the ongoing investigation.
