SCHAUMBURG, IL – A tense standoff on Braintree Drive concluded on Wednesday night when police took an alleged gunman into custody. The incident began earlier in the day when police received a call about a person who was shot around 2:50 p.m.
According to the Schaumburg Police Department, the conflict originated from a noise complaint involving a resident and a tree trimmer contracted by Davey Tree Expert. The confrontation escalated, leading to the resident shooting the tree trimmer. First responders administered aid at the scene and the victim was subsequently taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
Following the shooting, the armed resident barricaded himself inside his house, prompting an extensive police operation. The road was closed in both directions on Braintree from Cornell Lane to Cambridge Drive while negotiators and SWAT teams tried to communicate with the individual.
Davey Tree Expert reacted to the event, expressing their shock and concern: “We were horrified and devastated to learn of the shooting of a Davey Tree employee at a jobsite in Schaumburg, Illinois. Our thoughts and prayers are with our employee, his family, and the teammates who witnessed this tragic incident,” the company stated, ensuring their cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
The standoff saw the utilization of an armored vehicle to breach the residence’s entrance. However, the standoff ended just before 9:45 p.m. when the suspect was taken into custody.
Police have declared that an investigation is actively underway and charges are pending as they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this violent altercation.
