Triple shooting at 7-Eleven claims two lives, including an 11-year-old boy

A harrowing triple shooting took place late Thursday night at a 7-Eleven in Dania Beach, resulting in two fatalities, including an 11-year-old boy, before the suspect ultimately turned the gun on himself. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident.

According to BSO spokesperson Carey Codd, deputies were informed that the shooting happened inside the convenience store. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both 11-year-old Syed Nabigh Ali and the suspected gunman, 29-year-old Darren Rosenthal, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third individual, who had been shot in the neck while sitting in a van outside the 7-Eleven, was transported to a nearby hospital by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics.

Witnesses provided further insight into the tragic sequence of events. Rosenthal initially shot the man in the van before entering the convenience store and shooting young Syed, who had been purchasing ice cream at the time. Rosenthal then took his own life.

Syed was a fifth-grade student at Nur-Ul-Islam Academy, where he was remembered by a teacher as a “pleasant, well-mannered, and bright boy.” The young victim had a love for chess and eagerly anticipated playing soccer with his peers.

The shooter’s motive for the fatal incident is still unclear.
