MIAMI, FL – A tragic incident in Miami early on Friday morning ended in the death of young fraternal twins who were found inside of a vehicle. The female driver of the car is in a critical state after jumping off an overpass, according to authorities.
The victims have been identified as a boy and girl between three and four years old. The incident caused a traffic tie-up north of Downtown Miami and delayed commuter trains.
According to Miami-Dade County Police, 911 calls came in around 2 a.m., reporting about the unconscious children in the backseat of a car parked on Golden Glades Interchange, the confluence of I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike, notable for its heavy traffic.
Bystanders were attempting CPR on the twins when law enforcement and fire-rescue arrived. Almost immediately, the woman jumped off the overpass onto the train tracks from a considerable height, said Detective Andre Martin to the press.
With the woman’s life hanging in balance at the hospital, no details on the possible cause of death of these children or their relationship to the woman have been disclosed yet. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.
“Our investigators are working to piece this tragic incident together,” said Martin, signifying the shocking turn of events that unfolded.
