AMITYVILLE, NY – Two individuals have been arrested following the discovery of multiple dismembered body parts, including two severed heads, found at a Long Island park. Suffolk County police officers, acting on a search warrant, raided a house on Railroad Avenue in Amityville on Tuesday morning.
The arrests occurred after a multi-day investigation triggered by a chilling discovery in Babylon’s Southards Pond Park. A schoolgirl found a severed arm in nearby bushes Thursday, prompting her father to alert law enforcement. Subsequent searches turned up additional remains, including two heads.
Police believe one head, a right arm, and a leg belong to a female victim. The second head and two arms are likely from a male victim. Tattoos visible on one of the arms could indicate a criminal history. Authorities believe the absence of fingertips on the arm was an attempt to hinder identification.
Investigators remain tight-lipped on details, but a department command vehicle maintained a presence outside a two-family residence throughout Monday night. Neighbors reported officers using a battering ram to force entry into one of the units. On Tuesday, crime scene technicians exited the residence carrying a brown evidence bag.
Residents expressed shock and unease about the grisly discovery and ongoing police activity in their neighborhood. Investigators hope the tattoos on the severed arm provide clues that lead to the identification of the victims.
