Homicide detectives searched a remote Antelope Valley property Tuesday, but authorities have not identified the dead or disclosed which missing person case led them there.
LANCASTER, CA — Two bodies were found Tuesday at a remote Lancaster property where Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives were serving a search warrant connected to a missing person investigation, authorities said.
The discovery on Sept. 29 brought a large law enforcement response to a property near 50th Street East and Avenue F in the Antelope Valley. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said its Homicide Bureau was following up on information related to a missing person case. Authorities had not publicly identified the people whose remains were found or said which missing person investigation brought detectives to the property.
Investigators also had not disclosed how long the bodies may have been at the property or how the people died. The Sheriff’s Department said information about their identities and manners of death would not immediately be released while the investigation continued. The limited information left several major questions unresolved Tuesday night, including whether both bodies were connected to the missing person case that prompted the search.
Aerial video from the scene showed investigators concentrating on an area around the remnants of what appeared to be a greenhouse. A white canopy had been placed over part of the search area, and investigators were seen working around disturbed ground. A law enforcement dog also was observed assisting at the property. Several deteriorating structures and recreational vehicles could be seen elsewhere on the remote site.
The search continued for hours as homicide investigators examined the property. The location is in Lancaster, a high-desert city in northern Los Angeles County. Authorities did not immediately disclose what information led investigators to the site or what evidence they expected to find when the search began.
Detectives also searched a second Lancaster property in the 43000 block of Blooming Park Street, according to a Sheriff’s Department lieutenant who spoke with ABC7. No arrests were reported in connection with that search. Authorities did not explain the relationship between the two locations or say whether investigators recovered evidence from the Blooming Park Street property.
The Sheriff’s Department has been cautious about releasing information as detectives continue their work. Officials had not announced the name, age or other identifying information about the missing person whose case led investigators to the Lancaster property. They also had not disclosed whether investigators believe a crime occurred at the property or whether the bodies were placed there after deaths elsewhere.
The discovery remained under active investigation Tuesday night. Identification of the remains and determinations about the causes and manners of death were still pending publicly, and authorities had announced no arrests. Additional details were expected only as investigators completed their work and determined what information could be released without affecting the investigation.
