SARASOTA, FL – An unexpected crime scene confronted Sally Esser, a resident of Lido Key in Sarasota when she walked out of her house on Tuesday. Sarasota Police officers had descended on the scene, marking off the 700 block of South Boulevard of the Presidents, where two men were found dead in a rental property.
The two victims, aged 32 and 50, were found by someone with access to the residence early Tuesday morning. Details show that the pair were not local residents but co-workers who had come to the area for work purposes. According to Cynthia McLaughlin of the Sarasota Police Department, they were not being employed at the specific rental property, but it seems their employer had arranged for their stay there.
The investigation is still in progress. However, preliminary information suggests their deaths resulted from an argument that escalated, causing the men to end each other’s lives in a violent confrontation. Investigators acquired surveillance footage from within and outside the home that should provide further insight into the incident.
McLaughlin confirmed that one knife was found on the premises while they were still looking for another potential weapon. “It would be logical to assume each was armed but again we are very early on in the investigation. We don’t have both weapons,” she relayed.
The tragic event has shocked the quiet Lido community. Esser echoed the sentiments of fellow residents, expressing sadness for the victims and their families and regret for the impact on their peaceful neighborhood.
