Two crew members die on cruise ship

HALF MOON CAY, BAHAMAS – In a horrifying incident, two crew members onboard a Holland America cruise ship, Nieuw Amsterdam, were reported dead. The ship was moored at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas at the time of the incident.

Holland America confirmed the news via their Facebook page on Friday but refrained from revealing the identity of the deceased crew members. The incident, which occurred in the ship’s engineering space, has triggered an investigation, and the authorities have been duly notified.

Expressing their sorrow regarding the incident, Holland America stated, “All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our team members’ families at this difficult time.” The company affirmed its commitment to the safety, security, and welfare of both guests and crew.

Additionally, Holland America provides counseling services to crew members who might have been affected by the distressing event. On Saturday, a spokesperson for the cruise line disclosed that the incident happened around 9:20 a.m. local time on Friday. The 7-night itinerary ship had embarked upon its journey from Fort Lauderdale on March 16.

After the incident, the Nieuw Amsterdam returned to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, as per a CruiseMapper report. Incidentally, these deaths come in the wake of another disturbing cruise ship event where a man was arrested in the Bahamas after a Florida woman was found dead in her cabin.
