Police took a suspect into custody after officers found two shooting victims early Sunday on Arthur Street.
HOLLYWOOD, FL — Two people were hospitalized after an overnight shooting in Hollywood early Sunday, and a suspect who remained at the scene was taken into custody, according to police.
Hollywood Police officers responded at about 2:20 a.m. Aug. 16 to reports of a shooting in the 2700 block of Arthur Street, just north of Hollywood Boulevard. Officers found two people who had been shot, and Hollywood Fire Rescue took them to a local hospital. Authorities had not released their conditions as of Sunday afternoon.
Police said the person identified as a suspect remained at the scene and was detained as officers investigated. Authorities did not immediately release the suspect’s identity or say what charges, if any, were being considered. Police also had not announced a suspected motive for the shooting.
Local 10 reported that the gunfire occurred during a late-night studio session at a home in the area. Relatives of one victim told the station that their 23-year-old family member was inside the residence when someone pulled out a gun and began shooting. Police had not publicly confirmed those details about what led to the gunfire.
The relatives said the 23-year-old was struck multiple times and taken for medical treatment. Authorities did not independently release the victims’ ages or identities, and no official update on their medical conditions was immediately available.
The shooting brought a large police response to the residential area. Detectives restricted access to part of Arthur Street while investigators worked at the scene. News video showed officers in the area and a man being placed in handcuffs as the investigation continued.
Police have not publicly explained the relationship, if any, among the two victims and the person taken into custody. Authorities also have not released information about what happened immediately before the shooting or whether investigators recovered a firearm at the scene.
The case remained under active investigation Sunday. Police had not announced formal charges or released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting by Sunday afternoon.
