WAYNE, NJ – A shooting occurred in the parking lot of Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) in Wayne, New Jersey, just as a high school football game had ended on Friday. The incident led to two juveniles being injured by the gunfire. A suspect who was involved in the shooting is currently in police custody.
The football game was between Lenape High School and PCTI. A representative for Lenape High School expressed their concern for the injured individuals and the PCTI community. They clarified that none of their students or staff were involved in the incident, confirming the safety of all its students and staff.
A local mother named Jazmine Sanchez described the chaos following the shooting. She was at the football game watching her 11-year-old daughter play in a PCTI band when the gunfire erupted. Everyone dropped down to the ground as about half a dozen shots rang out when people were leaving the game.
The area around the crime scene was cordoned off, with several parked cars, orange cones, and potential evidence markers on the sidewalk nearby seen in video footage obtained from Chopper 2.
The investigation by Wayne Police Department, Passaic County sheriff’s office, and Passaic County prosecutor’s office is ongoing.
