BANKS COUNTY, GA – The execution of a felony arrest warrant at an Alto home on Tuesday took a tragic turn when two people were killed. The incident, which occurred in Banks County, GA, now falls under the investigative jurisdiction of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies had arrived at the Cedar Drive residence at about 9:30 a.m. with the intent of serving a felony arrest warrant. The target of the warrant, a sex offender alleged to have breached his probation conditions, remains unidentified.
The deputies entered the home at approximately 11:05 a.m., at which point events escalated, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The GBI is currently piecing together the sequence of events that transpired between the deputies’ arrival at the scene and the lethal conclusion.
No deputies sustained injuries, and the Banks County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance on the scene, though they were not directly involved in the incident. The GBI Medical Examiner’s office is expected to conduct autopsies that will help determine the cause and manner of death, while the identities of the deceased are held pending family notification.
The results of the GBI’s investigation will be handed over to the Banks County District Attorney’s Office for review. This marks the 44th investigative request received by the GBI since the onset of the year.
