Police arrested a 28-year-old after two people were found with fatal gunshot wounds on Milwaukee’s northwest side Monday.
MILWAUKEE, WI — Two people were found fatally shot inside a building on Milwaukee’s northwest side Monday afternoon, and police arrested a 28-year-old suspect as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting.
Milwaukee police responded around 3:40 p.m. Aug. 17 to the area of North 31st Street and West Cameron Avenue. Authorities said a 33-year-old victim and another person whose identity had not been officially released suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation was centered around a building in the 4900 block of North 31st Street, near Cameron Avenue. Local television crews described the scene as a warehouse area. Police did not immediately release information about what happened inside the building before the victims were shot.
A 28-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting, police said. Authorities had not publicly identified the person as of early Tuesday, and no criminal charges had been announced. Police said the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under investigation. Police had not released a possible motive or described the relationship, if any, among the victims and the person who was arrested. Authorities also had not said whether they were seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Family members who spoke with CBS 58 identified one of the victims as a Milwaukee rapper known as “FunnyMoney.” Police and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office had not publicly confirmed that identification in the initial information released about the shooting.
A sister of the man identified by relatives as FunnyMoney told the station that he cared deeply about music and his family. “He loved music, he loved his family, he loved everybody,” she said. His nephew also described a close relationship with him as relatives gathered after the shooting.
The deaths were among multiple fatal shootings investigated in Milwaukee on Monday. In a separate case near South 10th Street and West Lapham Boulevard, police said a 44-year-old person was killed in what investigators believed was a road-rage shooting. That case was not connected to the shooting near 31st and Cameron.
Police continued investigating the double fatal shooting Tuesday. The second victim’s identity, a motive and further details about what led to the gunfire had not been publicly released, while prosecutors had not announced a charging decision involving the 28-year-old suspect.
