Two officers shot in ambush situation

MIAMI, FL – Two Miami police officers are recovering in stable condition after being shot during an intense standoff with a barricaded suspect. The incident unfolded early this morning around 7:00 a.m. near Northwest 15th Avenue and 26th Street.

Officers initially responded to reports of an abandoned vehicle at the intersection. Upon inspection, they found no one nearby and arranged for the car to be towed. However, approximately 45 minutes later, a gunfire detection system alerted police to possible shots fired in the same area, prompting officers to return to the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. As they sought cover, a suspect began firing, injuring a male officer in the ankle and a female officer in the knee. Both officers were swiftly transported to Ryder Trauma Center by their colleagues and are reportedly in good spirits.

Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that the suspect remains barricaded inside a nearby home. Authorities have set up a perimeter and advised local residents to stay indoors for their safety. The identity of the suspect, known to police from previous encounters, has not been released.

During the standoff, a brief exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and responding officers. Thankfully, no further injuries have been reported. The situation remains tense as negotiators attempt to make contact with the barricaded individual.

Witnesses reported seeing officers equipped with tactical gear, including bulletproof vests and helmets, as they approached the scene. A man believed to be the suspect’s brother was detained for questioning after officers removed him from a pickup truck near the scene.

Police continue efforts to resolve the situation peacefully and ensure the safety of the community. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
