Two teenagers found shot to death in apartment building

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – An overnight shooting in St. Louis County has left two teenagers dead, and according to detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, they believe it was a case of murder-suicide.

The shooting incident occurred roughly a mile west of Interstate 170 in the 9400 block of Olive Boulevard around 12:50 a.m. The first responders to the scene were officers from the Olivette Police Department, responding to reports of a shooting.

While the officers were surveying the area, they heard another gunshot which led them to believe they were being shot at. This prompted an “officer in need of aid” call, leading multiple police agencies to the scene, including officers from Clayton, Shrewsbury, Rock Hill, and the North County Police Cooperative.

The teen victims were later identified as 16-year-old Mason McMahan and 18-year-old Teriq Lewis-Rushing, both found dead with gunshot wounds. McMahan was found in a nearby field while Lewis-Rushing was found inside an apartment building.

From the preliminary investigation, it has been postulated that the two teenagers were engaged in a conflict inside the apartment building.

Allegedly, McMahan shot Lewis-Rushing, then walked out to a nearby field where he shot himself. The investigation is still in progress.
