ATHENS, GA – Police in Athens have made a further arrest in connection to the shooting death of a 3-year-old at a mobile home park. A 16-year-old, named by the Athens-Clarke County Police as Jayden Brown, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the killing of Kyron Zarco.
The young boy was tragically shot and killed around 5:30 p.m. on March 8th at the Hallmark Mobile home park located on Spring Valley Road. An earlier arrest saw 17-year-old Julian Omar Cubillos, of Lawrenceville, charged with involvement in Zarco’s death.
Brown now faces a list of charges identical to those of Cubillos, which include malice murder, felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, as well as violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act enacted by Georgia.
Moreover, the police government is still pursuing two further suspects, 18-year-old Dakious Echols and 22-year-old Desmontrez Mathis. These individuals are wanted on the same charges.
The incident not only proved fatal for Kyron Zarco but also caused injury to his 9-year-old brother and another adult present at the time. Both of these victims suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The family is currently running an online fundraiser to cover Kyron’s funeral expenses.
In the search for the remaining suspects, Athens Clarke-County Police is appealing to the public for assistance. A reward of $2,000 has been offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to their arrest.
