CHICAGO, IL – A fatal incident took place in Chicago on Saturday when two teenage boys lost their lives in a drive-by shooting. The violent gunfire broke out on the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue in the Back of the Yards district, according to reports from the Chicago Police Department.
Police say the victims were on a house’s front porch when an unidentified vehicle drove past. A gunman inside the vehicle reportedly brandished a firearm and began firing at the boys.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen. Initially listed in critical condition, he was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Another 17-year-old boy, also part of the incident, suffered from additional gunshot wounds to his arm and his armpit. Taken to the same hospital, he was listed as critically injured before he was later declared deceased. Presently, their identities have not been disclosed.
Saturday evening saw distraught family members gathered outside Comer Children’s Hospital. A strong police presence was noticed at the shooting site, causing the street to be blocked off for several hours.
Chicago police are actively investigating the motive behind the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made. Further information on the ongoing investigation has been kept under wraps for now.
