HICKSVILLE, NY – A dramatic car crash on Woodbury Road near Bethpage Road left two women counting their blessings after a vehicle slammed into a house on Thursday afternoon. The driver, a 32-year-old woman, and the homeowner, a 56-year-old woman, both survived the shocking incident that residents described as something out of a video game.
Wayne Berk, a nearby resident, witnessed the scene unfold as he drove along Bethpage Road. He recounted seeing a car hurtling past him at an estimated speed of 75 mph before it veered off course and crashed into a house, traveling nearly half the length of a football field.
Inside the house, the homeowner was sitting in her living room when the car plowed through, sending debris flying. Miraculously, she was not pinned down and was able to move around, although she found herself trapped as the doors were jammed shut. Neighbors swiftly came to her aid, helping her escape through a window. In her state of shock, she repeatedly expressed disbelief about the car’s presence in her home.
The crash sparked panic among the neighbors, who were alarmed by the smell of gas and rushed to ensure the safety of everyone involved. An off-duty registered nurse in the vicinity offered her assistance, while emergency responders arrived promptly to handle the situation.
Rescue teams initially struggled to locate the driver amidst the wreckage but eventually managed to extract her and transport her to the hospital. Both women were taken to separate hospitals for treatment, and their survival is being hailed as nothing short of miraculous.
Berk and other residents noted that this intersection has seen similar incidents in the past, raising concerns about the frequency of such accidents. The community is relieved that this crash did not result in any fatalities, though it has certainly left a lasting impression on those who witnessed it.
