LOS ANGELES, CA – A horrific and shocking incident has left a community in despair as Prospero Guadalupe Serna, 38, faces a multitude of grave charges. These charges include murder, attempted murder, assault causing the death of children under 8 years old, and child abuse. This devastating event unfolded near the family’s residence north of Los Angeles, leading to Serna’s arrest.
Responding to a report of child abuse, deputies arrived at the scene to make a horrifying discovery. Two children had been brutally beaten and fatally stabbed, while two others were found in the residence, one of them injured. The victims have been identified as Serna’s 7-year-old and 3-year-old daughters. Shockingly, the children’s mother was also present during the harrowing attack.
Serna was taken into custody just a few blocks away from the scene, and now faces the prospect of a maximum sentence that could see him spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole, along with an additional 25 years in prison.
While an arraignment for Serna has been scheduled for Wednesday, the matter of his legal representation remains uncertain. It has also been revealed that Serna had a prior conviction dating back to 2017 for illegally causing a fire of a structure or forest land.
District Attorney George Gascón expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “Two young lives were abruptly cut short in an astonishing act of brutality. This is a profoundly heart-wrenching tragedy that has shaken our community to its core.”
