Virginia special education teacher killed as Hurricane Helene sweeps state

CRAIG COUNTY, VA – Tragedy struck when the remnants of Hurricane Helene claimed the life of Holly King, a special education teacher from Montgomery County, Virginia. The incident occurred on Friday as the storm swept through the Commonwealth.

King, 29, who hailed from Powhatan County, was based in Craig County at the time of her death. A graduate of Radford University, she was remembered and honored at an Eastern Montgomery High School volleyball game on Monday night. Before the game, a moment of silence was commemorated in her memory. To pay homage to King, athletes and fans wore green, her favorite color, at the game.

Details from the sheriff’s office revealed that King was at her outbuilding when Craig County Emergency Services received a distress call from a woman who reported to be injured.

By the time help arrived on the scene, they found an overturned outbuilding. Upon their arrival, emergency services discovered the deceased King inside her residence.

Tragically, a deputy at the scene was also struck by flying metal, resulting in significant injuries. The deputy was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
