Wife stabbed to death by husband in front of their 8-year-old child

HOUSTON, TX – A tragic incident unfolded in the Sunnyside area of Houston early Wednesday morning when a domestic dispute turned deadly. Michael Simpson, 58, has been charged with the murder of his 49-year-old wife and faces additional charges of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon. The horrifying incident is believed to have been an attempted murder-suicide.

Houston police responded to a distress call from a residence in the 1200 block of Elberta Street at approximately 4:05 a.m. The caller informed authorities that her husband, Simpson, was wielding a knife and appeared to be in the midst of a mental episode.

Upon their arrival, officers were met by the couple’s 8-year-old daughter, who uttered the chilling words, “Daddy was stabbing Mommy,” according to preliminary reports. Inside one of the home’s bathrooms, they discovered both Simpson and his wife, both suffering from multiple stab wounds. Tragically, the wife was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations suggest that Simpson inflicted the stab wounds on himself in an attempted suicide. He was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he remains in police custody. The couple’s young daughter has been placed under the care of Child Protective Services. This heart-wrenching incident underscores the urgent need to address domestic violence issues and ensure the safety of vulnerable family members caught in such traumatic situations.
