Woman and 9-year-old child injured in shooting

A 9-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman were injured in a shooting that took place in a vacant building on Detroit’s east side around 5 p.m. on Monday. The incident took place near the Fish Market, in the vicinity of Gratiot and State Fair.

At the time of the shooting, both victims were inside the abandoned building. The young boy sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach, leaving him in critical condition at Children’s Hospital. The woman was shot in the hip and is currently in temporary serious condition.

Detroit police are actively searching for three suspects in connection with the shooting, as stated by Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald. The relationship between the boy and the woman remains uncertain at this time.

Fitzgerald shared that the child’s father reported they were inside the vacant structure with others when the incident occurred. Three young men allegedly entered the building and opened fire.

Authorities are confident that both victims were inside the building during the attack. The police are currently seeking persons of interest who were captured in photos taken near the scene of the crime. Investigators urge anyone who recognizes these individuals or has any information about the incident to come forward.
