Authorities say Alix Louis Innocent, 28, punched the woman’s fiancé on Ocean Drive, then forced her upstairs and sexually battered her before she injured him and fled.
MIAMI BEACH, FL — A woman leaving a South Beach nightclub escaped a suspected kidnapping and sexual battery by biting her attacker’s penis after he punched her fiancé to the ground, knocking him out, on Ocean Drive late Saturday, Dec. 27, police said. Officers arrested a suspect the next day and booked him on armed sexual battery and kidnapping charges.
Police identified the suspect as Alix Louis Innocent, 28. The incident unfolded near the 900 block of Ocean Drive by the Breakwater, steps from the Voodoo Nightclub and Rooftop Lounge, according to an arrest report. Investigators say the woman and her fiancé had just left the venue when two men approached them. The case is drawing attention at the height of the holiday tourist rush on South Beach, with authorities reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses and checking whether earlier disturbances nearby are related. Innocent was on probation in Broward County and also had an active bench warrant at the time, records show, adding weight to questions about supervision and repeat offenders on Miami Beach.
Officers said security video shows two men and the fiancé walking along Ocean Drive shortly before the confrontation. The footage captures Innocent punching the fiancé, who collapses and suffers a head laceration, police said. With the fiancé down, Innocent told the woman she needed to go with him because she was “a witness to a murder,” according to the report. He led her upstairs into a nearby building and to a rooftop area. There, investigators say, he told her to perform sexual acts or he would kill her; the report notes he made the threat but did not display a gun. As the assault continued, the woman seized a moment to fight back, biting his penis and injuring him before sprinting away. She reached an officer and was taken to a hospital for treatment. “You’re going to kill me,” the woman is heard saying in building video reviewed by detectives; “I’m not, shut up. You’re going to listen, right?” a man responds, according to the report.
Police said the fiancé was transported for care with a head wound but additional details on his condition were not released. Investigators canvassed the 900 block area for cameras and witnesses, pulling clips that they say show the woman and Innocent entering the building and later the woman running out with her dress lifted while fleeing. Detectives said they found Innocent on Sunday, Dec. 28, and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, an officer noted he had an active bench warrant from August related to driving with a suspended license. Records also show Innocent is on probation until May 5, 2026, in Broward County for grand theft and fleeing or eluding police. Authorities did not say if the other man seen in the initial sidewalk encounter has been identified or is suspected of any crime. It remains unknown whether any weapon was recovered.
Ocean Drive is among Miami Beach’s busiest nightlife corridors and has been the site of past high-profile assaults and police operations. Businesses around the Breakwater and neighboring hotels maintain extensive camera systems that routinely become central to investigations on the strip, especially during late-night hours when crowds are thick and music venues empty out. The Saturday timing — the first weekend of the New Year’s week influx — meant officers were already patrolling heavily along Ninth and Tenth streets and the beachfront. City leaders have, in recent months, debated curfews, alcohol sales rules and stepped-up enforcement following violent incidents tied to the entertainment district. Those discussions now intersect with this case, which again centers on a late-night confrontation that moved quickly from the sidewalk to a building interior.
Innocent faces counts of armed sexual battery and kidnapping. Jail records did not immediately reflect a first-appearance hearing outcome, and it was not clear if he had retained an attorney. Miami Beach Police said detectives are cataloging video, processing the rooftop area and re-contacting nearby businesses for any additional footage that may show the moments before and after the assault. Investigators are also working to determine whether the second man seen on the sidewalk played any role beyond being present. Any decision on additional charges will come after prosecutors review the full case file. If formal charges are filed this week, a probable cause affidavit and discovery disclosures would follow in court.
On Ocean Drive Monday night, club doormen pointed out the alleyways that thread behind the hotels and restaurants, where officers often look for suspects who cut through to Collins Avenue. A hotel employee who asked not to be named said the rooftop areas can be difficult to secure when multiple tenants share stairwells. “We rely on cameras and staff radios. If you see someone leading a guest upstairs who seems distressed, you call it out,” he said. A woman visiting from New York described seeing police tape outside the building earlier in the day and patrol cars rolling slowly past the neon-lit facades. “It was crowded — loud music, people in holiday outfits — and then you notice everyone staring at the lights,” she said. Police spokespersons reiterated late Tuesday that the victim is receiving support services and that tips from the public are useful when incidents unfold amid nightlife crowds.
As of Wednesday evening, Innocent remained in custody as detectives finalize supplemental reports and seek any additional witnesses who were on the 900 block of Ocean Drive late Saturday. Prosecutors are expected to make charging decisions in the coming days and set a timeline for the suspect’s next court appearance.
