Police said the woman drove away after the shooting outside an east Houston bar and was expected to survive.
HOUSTON, TX — A woman who was shot during an attempted carjacking outside an east Houston bar managed to drive away and find help, police said. The gunman fled before officers could take him into custody.
The shooting happened about 11:40 p.m. Jan. 27, 2025, in the parking lot outside Voodoo Queen Daiquiri Dive at 322 Milby St., according to Houston police information reported by KTRK-TV. The woman had been leaving the bar when she was approached by a man who tried to take her vehicle.
Police said the man was wearing a black hoodie and a mask when he approached the woman. During the attempted carjacking, he shot her. Authorities did not release additional details about what led up to the shooting or whether anything was taken.
Despite being wounded, the woman was able to remain in control of her vehicle and drive away from the parking lot. She made it to Harrisburg Boulevard, where she sought help after escaping the attacker, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said she was expected to survive. Her name, age and the nature of her injuries were not released in the initial report.
The gunman left the scene after the shooting. Police did not publicly identify him in the reporting reviewed, and no detailed description was released beyond the black hoodie and mask authorities said he was wearing at the time of the attack.
