FORT WORTH, TX – A young boy, aged 14, was shot dead in Texas after a woman reported that he attempted to rob her home on Thursday, according to Fort Worth police. The incident happened in the early hours of the morning, and 911 was notified of an attempted robbery before the shooting.
The resident reported that she had faced attempted break-ins in her apartment in the past. She informed the police that the boy who attempted to break in had been fatally shot in the chest. The 14-year-old died from his injuries at the scene.
As of now, the woman who shot the teen intruder has not been arrested and is cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.
The deceased teenager’s identity has not been disclosed. However, he was reportedly an eighth-grade student at a local middle school. As the teen’s mother spoke with reporters, she indicated that he had snuck out of their house the night of the incident and she wasn’t aware of his absence until the following morning.
Durwyn Lamb, a youth mentor, shared that he was scheduled to have a mentoring meeting with the boy on the same day. Lamb was alerted of the teenager’s tragic death through a text message from the boy’s teacher. Lamb, who frequently interacts with young kids from the community, articulated his grief over the unexpected incident.
