Police said the death appeared accidental and investigators found no indication of foul play or a threat to the public.
FOLSOM, CA — A woman was found dead in a fountain at a Folsom shopping center early Monday, prompting a police investigation that remained active for several hours, authorities said.
Officers and detectives responded about 6 a.m. to the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street, near Broadstone Parkway. The location is within Broadstone Marketplace, a shopping center with restaurants, stores and other businesses.
The Folsom Police Department initially advised people that investigators were working near a business in the area. Police said there was no information suggesting a danger to the surrounding community.
Detectives later determined that the woman’s death appeared to have resulted from an accident, police said in a Monday afternoon update. Investigators found no indication of foul play, though officials did not release details about how the woman died.
Police vehicles were seen near a water fountain at the shopping center. A manager at a nearby veterinary clinic said investigators remained at the scene until about 9:30 a.m., according to CBS Sacramento.
The woman’s name, age and city of residence had not been released. Police said the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office would identify her after her family had been notified.
Authorities also had not disclosed who reported the body or how long the woman may have been in the fountain. No additional circumstances surrounding the discovery were immediately available.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is responsible for determining the official cause and manner of death. Police said the investigation had found no evidence of criminal activity as of Monday afternoon.
