Deputies said preliminary evidence indicates the husband shot his wife before turning the gun on himself outside their home.
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A woman died and her husband was critically injured Friday after a shooting outside their west Harris County home that investigators believe was related to domestic violence, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Harris County Precinct 5 deputies responded Aug. 28 to the 7400 block of Casuna Lane, where they found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds at an intersection, authorities said. Both were taken to hospitals. The woman was pronounced dead, while the man remained in critical condition.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said preliminary information indicates the husband shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated domestic violence incident. Investigators have not released the names or ages of the husband and wife.
The couple has three children, ages 4, 11 and 13, Gonzalez said. The children were at school when the shooting occurred and were not at the scene, according to the sheriff.
Deputies initially released limited information about what happened before the gunfire. Authorities have not publicly described what may have led to the shooting or announced a confirmed motive.
The shooting occurred in a residential area near Freeman Road and Westgreen Boulevard. Precinct 5 deputies were the first law enforcement officers to respond, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation.
Investigators continued working to establish the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the shooting. No additional injuries were reported, and authorities said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
As of early Saturday, the husband was still reported in critical condition and the investigation remained active. Authorities had not released additional information about his medical status or identified the woman who died.
